In a bustling city, amid the noise and chaos, lived a woman named Amly. She was known for her kindness, always ready to help her neighbours and friends. But behind her warm smile and gentle demeanor, Amly carried a heavy burden: her marriage to Zorek, a man who had once been charming and loving, but had transformed into her tormentor.

When they first met, Zorek was everything Amly had ever dreamed of. He was attentive, and affectionate, and made her feel special. They quickly fell in love, and it wasn’t long before they got married. For a while, their life seemed perfect. But soon after their wedding, Zorek began to change. His affection turned into possessiveness, his attention into control.

At first, it was small things. He would criticize her choice of clothes, question her friendships, and insist on knowing her every move. Amly brushed it off, believing that he was just being protective. But as time went on, his behavior became more erratic and abusive. He started yelling at her for minor things, belittling her, and isolating her from her friends and family.

One night, after Amily accidentally burned dinner, Zorak exploded in anger. He threw the plate against the wall, screaming insults that cut deeper than any physical wound. It was the first time he hit her. The shock and pain left her speechless, but the next morning, Zorek was full of apologies and promises that it would never happen again. Amly wanted to believe him, but deep down, a seed of fear had been planted.

The cycle of abuse continued, with Zorak’s outbursts becoming more frequent and violent. Amly lived in constant fear, always trying to appease him, always failing. She wore long sleeves to hide the bruises and plastered on a smile to mask the pain. Her world shrank to the confines of their apartment, where every day was a struggle to survive.

One evening, after an especially brutal incident, Amly found herself lying on the cold kitchen floor, tears streaming down her face. She knew she couldn’t live like this anymore, but the fear of leaving was paralyzing. As she lay there, she remembered the promise she made to her younger self—to live a life of dignity and courage. It was that memory that gave her the strength to act.

The next morning, while Zorak was at work, Amly packed a small bag and left. She went to a nearby women’s shelter, a place she had read about but never imagined she would need. The shelter staff welcomed her with open arms, providing her with a safe space and the support she so desperately needed.

At the shelter, Amly met other women who had faced similar horrors. Their stories of survival and resilience inspired her. With the help of the shelter’s counselors, she began to reclaim her sense of self and rebuild her life. She attended therapy sessions, enrolled in self-defense classes, and joined a support group. Slowly, the scars—both physical and emotional—began to heal.

Amly also took legal action against Zorek, obtaining a restraining order to ensure her safety. The road to recovery was long and challenging, but Amly was determined. She found a job and eventually moved into her own apartment, a small but significant symbol of her newfound independence.

Years later, Amly looked back on her journey with a sense of pride. She had transformed from a victim into a survivor, from a woman living in fear to one who had reclaimed her life. She became an advocate for domestic abuse survivors, using her story to inspire and empower others. Amly’s strength and resilience became a beacon of hope, proving that even in the darkest of times, there is always a way out.

Keep in mind that being independent doesn’t just mean being financialy indipendant, it is also knowing your worth as a human being and creating positive energy by putting your trust in the Almighty Allah (SWA).

The Uncertainty

Almost four years ago, I was standing on my balcony, gazing out at the surrounding buildings. Lost in thought, I had no idea how long I had been standing there. The sun had already dipped below the horizon, leaving the sky a beautiful mix of twilight and scattered clouds. My mind was wandering, but a distant bird’s chirp brought me back to the present, making me smile.

A colony of pigeons flew past on my right and settled on a nearby rooftop. I found myself captivated by them, marveling at the beauty of Allah’s creation. An inner voice whispered, “Another beautiful creation of Allah. They don’t have to think much, unlike us.”

As I watched, some of the pigeons took flight again while others stayed put. Those that flew away soon returned. I found myself wondering, “What are they trying to teach me? Why do they keep flying away and coming back?”

Then, I noticed someone in the next building throwing rice from a small plastic bag. The first time, almost all the pigeons flew away, but most returned. The second time, many flew, but not as far, and some quickly returned to the roof.

“In every situation, there is something to learn,” I thought. “The rice bag, like a tempting bait, attracts the birds to fly back. They have learned that even though it’s a bit unsettling, what they get in the end is not danger, but a meal.”

Reflecting on this, I realized a deeper truth about life. No matter how situations affect us, the people who truly love and care for us will remain. People may leave us for many reasons, but true friends always come back.

In that moment, I understood the lesson the pigeons were teaching me. Sometimes, in the face of uncertainty, we must take risks and trust that what awaits us might just be a blessing.

So, keep engaging with life, embrace the risks, and trust that the outcomes may be unexpectedly wonderful.
